Traveling with your pet
If you want your pet to travel with you or you move to another city, here are some travel tips:
If the pet travels with you, it will retain its sense of identity. But pets can become frightened and run away when you open doors or windows. Keep your pet on a leash when out of the car or hotel.
Your pet must have a special identification plate, as well as usual. You must have the name of the pet, you, who to contact in the place of destination (if not you), a telephone, and optionally the address. You can improvise a plate with paper and tape carefully pasting the original board your pet.
If you have questions about the current health of your pet, consult your veterinarian.
Also check with your vet if a mild sedative is appropriate for your pet. Do not medicate if you request!
If your dog or cat is not used to traveling by car, make short trips with the pet during one or two weeks before the trip to accustom the movement and to teach how to behave.
You must teach your dog to lie quietly with his head inside, without disturbing or companions who runs. Do not let your dog pull the head, can irritate eyes and cause problems. Do not use violence. Just reward him every time is behaving as it should. Make the trip a positive experience for your pet - and you.
Cats are often frightened at the cars, but some adapt quickly. Some people let the cat will find its place in the car, while others prefer to travel in the cat carrier.
Accustom your pet to be on a leash and chest. Always use the leash when traveling. Better yet is a front, you can connect to the seat belt, and allows the pet some movement while secured with a belt. Your pet may run away if not properly secured.
Make frequent stops so your pet can use the bathroom. If you travel with your cat, you can take in a sandbox small kennel for travel.
If you travel during the night scale, find out ahead of time to find a hotel in which they allow pets.
Make sure your pet is properly identified. Bring vaccination certificates.
Never leave your pet in the car the sun, and with the windows closed. Pull over to the shade leaves half-open windows to circulate fresh air, but your pet can not escape.
For air travel also consider:
Get a kennel with one or two weeks in advance. Familiarize your pet, placing it on the conveyor few minutes per day. Gradually increase the time until the pet feel relaxed when in the carrier.
Powered by your pets last five or six hours before the flight. Give water to drink one or two hours before the flight.
Show up on time in the terminal.
Make sure the carrier are written in the names and phone numbers of persons responsible for the pet at origin and destination.
Place the phrase "Animal Live / Live Animal" in large letters on the conveyor.
What to bring:
Enough food for the trip (where you anticipate that you may not get the food you eat your pet)
Their water dishes and food
A can opener (if required)
Some awards
Your favorite toy and blanket
Combed or carded
A kennel (required for air travel, and highly recommended for travel by land)
Correa, front, collar, nameplate
Sedative (if prescribed by a veterinarian) and any medications your pet is currently taking
A recent photo of your pet (if lost)
Cleaning supplies: Paper towels, air freshener, plastic bags to pick up what your pet dirty
When you arrived at your destination, you will notice that your pet has the same problems adjusting as you. He must learn where everything is, knowing the neighbors - human and animals. It must conform to water and climate, and learn where to go and where not. Make the animal feel at home using things that are familiar, such as plaos, blankets, toys and other items.
