E-commerce, Where Do I Begin
E-commerce is not just for the brick and mortar companies, but also for a one-man shop. If you are
a business man, who has a specialty item, due to lack of funds, may not be distributed to department stores, watch an online business. It can give you a presence, and a ready market.
But as with anything, you must have some standard elements to start. I'll try to give you an overview.
Storefront Elements
Your Storefront - Logos and graphics are important when you put your
store. They should keep your regular customers coming to your site, as well as,
attract new customers into your store.
What I look for in a glass case, as an affiliate marketer, is more or less the same as what a customer wants to see.
For example:
1. Photos and Description. Make sure your photos and images are loaded properly, it can drive people away quickly.
2. Accessibility of Links to product details.
3. Easy navigation to make the visit to the client without problems.
4. Cart e-commerce that works. (Why do I say this? I was looking
an affiliate partnership possible and decided to test the shopping cart). The
cart came up with the voice, as it should. I then put in "1" to select an item to purchase. Then I hit continue. It was then that the shopping cart software inflated and forced me to return to the beginning). I tried several times, then quit in frustration and bought elsewhere. Take my meaning here? (Ease of ordering is important for you, if you want sales)
5. Spelling - Try to have all the words spelled correctly - reduces the quality of information.
Important things to consider
There are other important things to consider, especially when it comes to spending money.
If you want to build an ecommerce site, you will need a shopping cart e-commerce. Shopping cart software can be run from free to a maximum of $ 500 per month. If you are a shop, a man with a little 'pocket money, you may want to consider a free solution e-commerce to start. For example, OS Commerce (http://oscommerce.com/) is an open source, free solution that is available for ecommerce
free. It features a rich set of out-of-the-box functionality on-line shopping cart that allows store owners
to configure, run and maintain their online stores with minimum effort. If you are lucky, the server will be set for you. Otherwise, you may need to have someone set it up for you for a small fee.
Payment Gateway - This is the service that will help develop methods of payment: Whether it's PayPal, AuthorizeNet, Paynova, etc. You will need to control costs for each sale, chargeback, and monthly expenses that you may charge.
I would like to emphasize the importance of this technical aspect of your business. Why? It will help in the management of orders, taxes, payment processing and delivery of your order efficiently. Again, if you have all your ducks in a row, you can lose money.
Ecommerce Website Design-If you are going to have someone build your own e-commerce site you need to understand that in your cost. If you're planning to build your own web site that most of the cost will work. Just a note: design your website is getting a little 'easier, even without
Knowledge of HTML. But if it is open source software, will be responsible for maintenance and software updates when necessary. And believe me, you will have some friendly reminders to update the e-commerce software from your server. Why? If you do not update the patch, can cause holes in the server, which affects everyone. What will they do if you do not update? The first-remember, the second time - but a hold on your account and business up to date.
Product photography - you want to have quality images for your site. Not only to keep customers happy, but also to attract affiliates to help sell your products.
Contact - 800-number, telephone number, e-mail or a contact for customer service / support. If you do not have a way to contact customer service, people will be when delivered in bulk, because it may call into question the legitimacy of the site.
And let me emphasize, customer care is important on the Internet. It inspires confidence, and when you break the trust that the entire Internet will know about it. This will affect the customer base as well, attracting affiliates. In fact, if I find that the care of the customer to a product or service is an important resource for my affiliate business. If I hear the roar of bad service or that the service is not on par, - I will monitor for a month - and if it is just an isolated incident, remains. But if that's what they are doing business on a regular basis, is gone from my site.
Good computer with a big hard-drive, and at least 1 gig memory, 2 GB if you have a Vista operating system. And a good FTP software program.
Shipping - You need to estimate your shipping costs. Determine if you only ship within the States or internationally. And I would advise to have a monitoring system in place, for both deliveries and returns.
Marketing
Now that you have the most important pieces together you will then start the process-SEO Marketing, SEO optimization, email marketing, article writing, Adwords, just to name a few.
Desire and Success
I want to emphasize that an online business is like a brick and mortar business. With that being said, be aware that in most cases a new company will be 1 to 2 years for a draw and 2-4 years to begin to make a living from your business. And if you're online, you must learn and adapt continuously, and be prepared for the competition when you start seeing an element of success.
Finally, when you get an idea for an e-commerce site, or any business - my advice is do not quit your job until you know who are established and have money coming in. Learn everything you can, and the desire and passion will take you through the times frustrating, because the good times will surely take care of themselves ....
