Leadership Styles
So what is your leadership style?
You are authoritarian, democratic, Servant, thoughtful
All the above styles have their merits, some many demerits.
But we're looking in the wrong place, in the context of embracing a style that will strengthen our relationship with all major stakeholders in society, in particular course of our internal and external customers?
The story that follows Sufi comes to mind:
Nasruddin said that some people came to him one night to crawl on hands and knees under a streetlight.
"What are you looking for?" they asked.
"I left the key to my house," he said.
They all went down to look for help, but after a fruitless search, someone asked him where he had dropped the key in the first place.
"At home," said Nasruddin.
"Then why are you looking under the lamppost?" they asked.
"Because there is more light here," said Nasruddin.
We have embraced the strategy Nasruddin in the context of our style of leadership? We are buying into slogans and running away from the core competence that we have to start to develop our leadership potential?
This skill is easy to understand, but a challenge to fully embrace - the need to be real.
The Real New Leader
The new leader creates real leaders at all levels, which is crucial if you want the organization to grow. A recent Gallup study showed that the majority of employees said that their direct manager is the most important person in the context of their organizational growth. The CEO / Leader - celebrity or not - it was just a figure with little or no impact on employees. So line managers need to take a leadership role in engaging employees fully. Remember the commitment is equal to productivity and profitability.
The new Real leaders are not afraid to recruit talented people who can take the organization to the next level. His / her understanding and appreciation that life is a real journey - as a child from dependence to independence to interdependence - allows them to interact at all with ease and to exploit the potential of their team.
The true leader communicates his / her vision with energy, enthusiasm, clarity and conviction.
The true leader cares for its employees and customers, both internal and external, and works to exceed their expectations on an ongoing basis. Considering that so many customers and employees leave companies on monthly basis, the ability to retain people is a key skill.
The true leader has a love for what they are doing their job and sees more as a hobby than a business meeting!
The trust, not fear, permeates the corporate culture.
So how does the real leader to begin the journey to get real?
Well initially understand that the stumbling block before he / she is, and begin the journey towards self empowerment.
More travel, more to improve your relationships and leverage your innate potential and the potential of others.
As always, enjoy the ride .......
